Blake Lewis - American Idol's Only Male Top 4 Survivor in 2007

Season 6 of American Idol seemed to start out as an all female affair. The girls so outperformed and out sang the guys in the early stages that it seemed the structure of the elimination process was spoiling the show. The top 16 could easily have been 12 girls and 4 guys if the rules did not dictate that an 8/8 gender split was compulsory. That was a shame, as some weaker guys got through and we lost some deserving girls.

Anyhow, Blake Lewis has always carried the flag for the guys, having been the most outstanding male through the competition, and deserving of his top 4 place. As the only remaining guy, he will surely pick up a lot of votes from teenage girls and young women, as well as true fans who love his individuality and style of music.

Blake is a self assured young man who has a lot to be admired as a person, even for those who do not like his music. He is not only talented, but prepared to be individual and take risks, a sure sign that one day his potential could be fulfilled. He is also clearly a hard worker, always wanting to try out new things, test out new techniques and ideas. His devotion to developing his own style is admirable, and the way he gets into his own home studio to prepare for each song is to be admired.

I think from his first appearance Blake Lewis has been assured a future in show business, and will no doubt be a recording star in his own contemporary style. I can see him developing and branching out for many years to come. He has definitely been one of the best contestants to keep an eye on from a personal development point of view. But, it will not end there. Just watch him develop his career from here on in, regardless of American Idol.

UPDATE: Blake Lewis not only made it to the top three but into the final, where he held his head high, thoroughly enjoyed himself, but was disadvantaged by given a closing song which was just not his style. Jordin performed the same song magnificently, seizing the American Idol crown from Blake.

The loss, though, is unlikely to affect his future. He has a massive following, can now get back to his own music, and will surely develop that following much further.
